Get Sugar Savvy

A healthful diet should be low in sugar. Sugary foods are generally junk foods containing “empty” calories and lots of them. While sugar might provide a quick burst of energy, you will need something more substantial in the long run. If you crave sugar for the taste try eating fruits which contain natural sugars. Some good tasting fruits to try are pears, berries, grapefruit, and watermelon. Also, if you find yourself adding sugar to your foods or beverages consider trying an artificial sweetener to avoid the calories but keep the taste.

How to Beat the Summer Slump

Summer and sweat are synonymous with each other. But it is important this time of year to make sure that all that sweat isn’t just a result of sitting poolside but a result of working out as well. Many people feel that they hit a rut when it comes to keeping up their workout routine over the hot months of summer. But don’t give up just yet; there are several ways you can revitalize your usual workout routine to keep that body bathing suit ready!

The number one complaint people have about working out in the summer is the soaring temperature. That’s why we are inviting you to come beat the heat at Club One Fitness, where we always keep it cool! Working out indoors doesn’t mean spending endless hours on the treadmill, why not try something new? Variety is the spice of life, and it can mean breathing some life back into your workout routine. Taking a fitness class with one of our friendly instructors allows you to exercise as well as socialize. For those of you who have already mastered everything from yoga to step and are looking for something different, grab a pair of boxing gloves. For the sports minded we invite you to come shoot some hoops or start a game of basketball. Our indoor basketball court is a great way to brush up on your skills in a comfortable environment. Still feeling that summer slump? Why not make it your goal to try out a new piece of equipment in the gym each day. Make it your goal to master every piece of equipment by the end of the summer, to keep things challenging and fresh!

Whether you’re training for an event or just staying in shape, don’t let the summer slump get you down. Head on over to Club One Fitness and we promise to keep you on your toes and having fun!

Looking for a quick way to beat off those hunger bangs and get a hefty dose of protein, look no farther than a jar of nuts. A handful of nuts can serve as a powerful snack and is good for your heart. They are high in fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins...maybe squirrels are on to something! While nuts are extremely healthful they are also high in calories so moderation is key, try to limit yourself to about a handful a day. Some good nuts to try are cashews, almonds, and peanuts.  So, go nuts!

How to Stop Eating

Know When to Say No: When eating a balanced diet it's important to not overeat. Knowing when to put down the fork is just as and maybe even more important than what is on it. Before you eat anything you should ask yourself am I hungry or am I eating for some other reason. Once you start eating it might be hard to stop. Listen to your body and stop eating when you are full not STUFFED! You might need to eat slower then usual so your brain has time to register how much you've eaten. Avoid eating while watching T.V or reading, focus on eating only and how full you are feeling and you are guaranteed to not overeat!
